Weekend Happenings & Meal Plan

I meant to get this up yesterday, but I completely forgot.  We spent most of our weekend hanging out at a local festival.  We braved the rain Saturday (and Sunday), and attended a European Festival about 20 minutes from where we live.  There were vendors from all over Europe selling food and/or products.  On Saturday we drank some delicious German, Irish, and Israeli beer.  I also ate my first shawarma which was amazing!  We bought some spicy olives from Sicily, a chocolate covered pretzel from Austria, and some wild boar sausage from Italy.  We went back on Sunday, and I had some yummy paella and sangria.  Festivals are one of the things I'm going to miss most about Europe!

Meal Plan:

Monday: Cilantro Lime Chicken Breasts (I never made it last week since I forgot I had a book club meeting.).
Thursday: Bean Burritos

Weekend Happenings & Meal Plan Monday

Hello, hello!  It's been awhile since I've blogged.  No particular reason really.  Just haven't felt like it!  But, I'm back! :)

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  We had a pretty busy one ourselves!  Our base held their semi-annual bazaar this past weekend.  I can't remember if I blogged about it before, but it's basically a one-stop shop for vendors from all over Europe to come sell their products on base.  An hour or so after they opened on Friday the husband and I went by to stock up on some Belgian beer.  It's our favorite, and it's hard to come by here!  We bought our favorites before they sold out, and walked around really quick since he had to get back to work.

I've been eyeing this piece of artwork for the past couple of bazaars, and decided to buy it.  It has a creepy, but beautiful vibe going on (no?).  It's made out of paper mache, and has Italian song lyrics (you can barely make them out in the picture) written on it.  The woman whose husband made it told me the song writers name, but I forget who it is.  It can be hung, but I'm going to try to find a plate holder to display it.

Saturday, while the husband was at the movies with some friends (He saw Iron Man 3. I loathe sci-fi or any sort of comic book movies, so I happily told him to go.), I went back to the bazaar with my friend Tessa.  I ended up buying a bracelet, delicious Belgian chocolate, and Speculoos (OMG why haven't I tried this before now?!).

I went home and told the husband about a vintage crate I saw, and kind of liked.  He asked if I wanted to go back, and look at it again, and possibly buy.  I told him I didn't know (I'm terribly indecisive), and we watched some tv instead.  About an hour before the bazaar closed to the day, we decided to go back.

We bought the crate, and I love it!  It's a vintage banana crate from Belgium.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it, or where I'll put it at the moment.  I'm kind of running out of space in our house.

We bought MORE Belgian beer, my favorite pesto, and put in a custom order for this...

A wine barrel made into a wine rack!  I'm not sure what we were thinking since it's freaking expensive, but oh well!  We said it'll be our "leaving Italy" gift to ourselves to make us feel better. ;)  Ours will be a Spanish wine barrel (the one pictured is French) which means it'll be darker, have 3 wine racks inside, and a shelf above the wine racks.  We'll pick it up when they come back for the fall bazaar in October.  The owners of the shop didn't even make us put down a down payment for the wine barrel since we've spent so much at their shop (we've bought a Scottish whiskey barrel, and Belgian beer barrel in years past).  I'm not sure if that's a good thing, or a bad thing.

We came home after that and grilled some steak, asparagus, and zucchini.  And enjoyed some Belgian beer to make us kind of forget how much money we had just spent.

FYI - I did not eat this entire steak!

On Sunday we went to a local cheese factory, and took a tour!  But, more on that at a different time. :)

I've been slacking BIG TME with making meal plans, so it's back to posting them on here to help me make them!

Meal Plan:

And I know I've been saying I'll post about our trip to Paris that we took six months ago.  Truth is, I didn't really care for Paris (GASP), so I think that's why I have no desire to blog about it.  Maybe sometime this week I'll have the 1st post written!  No promises, though. :)

Weekend Update & Meal Plan Monday

Ciao!  Hope you all had a lovely weekend!

The husband had last Friday off for a family day, but it was pretty rainy.  I somehow convinced him to go to Ikea with me since I've been needing to go for awhile.  My husband HATES Ikea with a passion.  His nickname for it has always been "The Devil's Playground."  So, I was very surprised he willingly went with me!  I'm thinking this was our last trip to Ikea (here in Europe anyway), which I'm not sad about.  We've spend a small fortune at Ikea in the 3+ years we've been here.  We've mostly bought furniture for organization (since we have no closets), and I'll be happy to get rid of it ALL when it's time to PCS!

We went to one of our favorite restaurants for dinner Saturday evening.  Gnocchi with duck sauce, and pasta with wild boar....yummmm!

Sunday was our towns monthly antique market.  Hubs and I walked down to the center and checked everything out.  It was pretty packed.  Nice weather has been rare these days, so everyone was out and about!

I ended up buying some metal hooks for a project I hope to do once we're back in the states.

After walking around we headed to base where the husband spent a small fortune on custom made golf clubs.  He's been wanting a new set for a LONG time, but he doesn't like to spend money on himself.  I told him to buy a set last year, but he's been putting it off.  This weekend a Nike Pro came to Aviano, and did custom fittings.  I think that was was the shove he needed to finally order some!  They had a pretty good deal on a set, and told him to just buy them already.  So, in 3 weeks when they come in I'm sure I'll be a golf widow. ;)

Meal Plan:

Monday: Chicken Gyros w/ Homemade Tzatziki Sauce.  We had these last night, but I have a lot of tzatziki leftover, so we're having them again!

Tuesday: Carolina Pulled Pork Sandwiches

Wednesday:  Black Pepper Chicken

Thursday: Cheesy Broccoli & Bacon Pasta Bake.  Not the slightest bit healthy, but I've been wanting to try this recipe out for awhile. It's almost that time of the year where I stop using my oven, so I need to make it soon!

I finally started going through my Paris photos, and I'll have a post up either tomorrow, or Wednesday!

Meal Plan Monday

Hello!  I hope you all had a great weekend.  Ours was busy, as we spent the weekend in Poland!  More on that in an upcoming post.

Monday: Bean & Rice Burritos - I am exhausted from traveling, and we have no food in the house.

Tuesday: Crock Pot Corned Beef & Cabbage - we got home late last night, so I wasn't able to make this yesterday.  I'm excited to make this since I haven't had corned beef in YEARS (just started eating beef again last summer).

Wednesday: Chicken Adobo - I swear I'm making this!  I keep forgetting to defrost the chicken.

Thursday: Black Pepper Chicken

Friday: Nachos with Chicken & Black Beans - I've had a serious craving for nachos lately!

I hope to have a post up about our trip to Paris last November up later this week! :)

Dubrovnik, Croatia

The final stop on our cruise was Dubrovnik, Croatia.  We got into port fairly early, which we were thankful for since it was already boiling hot at 9am.  We only had a short time in Dubrovnik (about 5 hours), before we started our journey back to Venice.

There really isn't a lot to do in Dubrovnik, but it is beautiful so I'm glad our cruise stopped there!  We took a cab into town (about €10), and then bought tickets to walk the city walls.  The walk took us about 2 hours to do, and had breathtaking views.  I'm apologizing right now for all of the photos!

It's hard to believe that this country was at war just a little over 20 years ago!

Meal Plan Monday

Ciao!  I hope everyone had a lovely weekend!  Ours was rainy, but we still enjoyed it!  We went to the local Italian movie theatre on Saturday afternoon, and saw A Good Day to Die Hard.  It had not so great reviews, so I was worried, but I thought it was pretty good!  It was your typical Die Hard/action movie.  Later that night we headed over to a friends house for a small house party.  We stayed until almost 3am, which meant Sunday was spent being lazy.  The weather was crap, so I didn't feel bad about it. ;)

Monday: Turkey Sloppy Joes with Chipotle Sweet Potato Fries.
Wednesday: Crock Pot Chicken Adobo (never made it last week)
Thursday: Pasta with Turkey Sausage & Peppers (my own recipe)
Friday: We head to Poland this evening, so I'll pick up a pizza before we head out of town.

Hope everyone has a great Monday (if that's even possible)! :)
